Terms of use
Plain-language rules for using the checker and its API.

The service
Metadata Scout is a free tool that fetches a public web page and shows the metadata it contains: title, description, Open Graph tags, Twitter card tags, structured data and related head elements, along with previews of how that metadata is likely to render on Google, Facebook and X.
Acceptable use
- Scan only pages you are allowed to access. The tool fetches with no credentials, so it only ever sees what a logged-out visitor sees.
- Do not use the tool or its API to overload another site, to probe private networks, or to circumvent another site's access controls.
- Do not circumvent the rate limit. The API is open for reasonable, attributed use. If you need sustained volume, get in touch first.
Previews are estimates
Google, Facebook, X and other platforms change how they render link previews without notice, apply their own caches, and may ignore or override tags. The previews here follow each platform's documented behaviour as closely as we can, but the platform's own rendering is the only final answer.
Third-party content
Titles, descriptions and images shown in results belong to the sites they were fetched from. Metadata Scout displays them to you for inspection and claims no rights in them.
No warranty
The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It may be unavailable, rate limited, or changed at any time. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Metadata Scout is not liable for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the service.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top of this page shows the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
